BetterDocket for civil litigation
Client Communication Software for Civil Litigation Firms
Litigation runs on a calendar clients do not understand, through phases they cannot see. BetterDocket translates the case into plain-English status and next steps — and turns discovery's document grind into requests that chase themselves.
The problem
Where civil litigation time actually goes.
Procedure is opaque to clients
Answer, discovery, motions, conferences — the machinery of litigation means nothing to most clients. What they experience is a year of paying bills while nothing visible happens.
Discovery means collecting from your own client
Responding to document requests means getting records out of your client's hands — emails, contracts, statements — usually across a dozen email threads with attachments that bounce.
Court dates move, and someone has to say so
Continuances and rescheduled conferences generate a round of calls every time. Missing one client in the round generates something worse.
How BetterDocket helps
The follow-up handles itself.
Plain-English phases for an opaque process
The client sees which phase the case is in — pleadings, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation — with your explanation of what that means and what happens next.
Document collection that survives discovery
Request the categories you need through the matter, with due dates. Client uploads land in the case, organized by request, with automatic reminders on everything still outstanding.
Dates that update everywhere at once
Key dates live on the matter. When a hearing moves, the matter is the single place to change it — and every client on the case sees the current date, not the old one.
Questions
Frequently asked
Does BetterDocket handle e-discovery or document review?
No. It collects documents from your clients and keeps them organized on the matter, but e-discovery processing, review platforms, and production tooling are outside its deliberately narrow scope.
Can I keep firm work product away from the client view?
Yes. Clients see only the client-visible side of the case: status, next steps, messages, requests, and documents shared with them. Internal folders, the trash, and draft work in progress never appear in the portal.
Is BetterDocket useful if my client is a business?
Yes. A business client's contact works the same portal — status, requests, uploads, and messages tied to the matter — which beats reconstructing the case from an email thread before every board update they owe someone.
