Set up website intake

Website intake gives your firm a public form that potential clients fill in. Each request lands on your dashboard (Today), and opening it creates a prospect case with the person already attached as the client. Nothing is typed twice, and nothing is sent to the person until you act.

Turn on your intake page

Open Settings → Intake. Only owners and admins can change it; everyone else can see the address and copy it.

  1. Choose the Address. It is the last part of your page's web address, for example smith-law in betterdocket.com/intake/smith-law. Lowercase letters, digits, and hyphens only. Changing it later breaks links you have already shared.
  2. Add a Headline if you want something other than "Tell us about your matter."
  3. Under What is this about?, list the matter types a visitor can pick from, one per line. Leave it empty to skip the question.
  4. Write a Notice or leave the standard wording, which says the form does not create an attorney-client relationship and asks the person not to include confidential details yet.
  5. Tick Accept requests and press Save intake page.

The address at the top of the page shows Live once the page is on. Copy it, or Open it to see what a visitor sees. Untick Accept requests to switch the page off; the address then shows nothing, and no request can be sent through it.

Put the form on your website

Once the page is live, Add it to your website shows two snippets.

  • Script is the one to use when you can. Paste it where the contact form should appear, and the form shows up inside your page and grows to fit. It works on WordPress, Squarespace, Webflow, and most other site builders.
  • Plain iframe is for a site builder that strips scripts. It shows the same form at a fixed height.

Choose Appearance first: Light suits most sites, Dark matches a dark site, and Match the visitor's device follows their system setting. The snippets update as you choose, so copy after choosing.

If you would rather not touch your website, link to the hosted address from your site, your email signature, or your Google Business profile.

What a visitor sees

The page carries your firm's name, your headline, and your notice. It asks for a full name, an email, a phone number, a matter type from your list, and a few sentences about what they need. Only the name and email are required. After sending, the person sees a short confirmation that your firm has their details. They receive no email at this point.

A hidden field catches most automated submissions, and one intake page accepts at most thirty requests an hour.

Handle requests on your dashboard

New requests appear in a block at the top of your dashboard, Today, with the count in Today's signals. Owners and admins also receive a notification. Each request shows who it is from, the matter type, how to reach them, when it arrived, and what they wrote.

  • Open as prospect creates a prospect case named after the person and the matter type, attaches them as the client, and sends their portal invite, exactly as if you had created the case yourself. What they wrote is kept on the case's activity trail. You land on the new case, ready to request the documents you need before the first meeting.
  • Decline deletes the request after you confirm. Nothing is sent to the person.

A prospect case is free until you accept it. Create a case explains what happens next.
