Firm portal help

Set up your firm workspace

Setting up BetterDocket takes four steps: create an account with your work email, confirm that email, return and sign in, and create your firm workspace. The 14-day free trial starts with the workspace — no credit card required.

Create your account

From the sign-in screen, choose Create an account. Enter your work email and a password of at least 8 characters, then press Start free trial. BetterDocket emails you a confirmation link; click it, come back, and sign in with the email and password you just created.

Create the firm workspace

The first time you sign in without a firm, BetterDocket asks for your Firm name, Your display name, and the country your firm operates from, and shows the agreements to accept. Press Create firm workspace and you land on Today, ready to create your first case.

The firm workspace owns everything client-facing — cases, phase updates, messages, and document requests. One workspace per firm: teammates join by invite instead of creating their own.

Fill in firm details and a logo

Under Settings, the firm owner can add contact details and a mailing address in Firm details. These appear throughout the workspace and in what clients see from your firm, including the signature on emails BetterDocket sends on your behalf. Firm logo takes a JPEG, PNG, or WebP up to 2 MB and shows in the client portal and on those emails.

Introduce yourself to clients

Your Profile carries the client-facing side of you: a photo, a Client-facing title such as "Attorney" or "Paralegal", and an optional Bar number shown next to your name. Clients see all of this on the Your firm team page of their portal, so a clear name and title here saves a "who is this?" email later.

Joining an existing firm instead?

If a teammate already set up your firm, sign in with the same email address the invite went to. BetterDocket shows the invitation before anything else — review the user terms and press Join on your firm's card. And if you were invited to a client portal rather than a firm, that lives in the BetterDocket client app; sign up there with the email your firm has on file.

Next: create your first case, then get the client into their portal.
