Firm portal help
Send a draft for client review
The Drafts tab keeps a working document versioned and private to your firm until you deliberately send a version for client review. The client can approve it, suggest changes, upload a marked-up copy, or ask to discuss it on a call — and every round stays attached to the case instead of an email thread.
Start a draft
Press New draft document and upload the first version — PDF, image, text, Word, or spreadsheet, 10 MB max. BetterDocket reads the document's opening to suggest a Document title and Version note; both are editable prefills for you to review before pressing Create draft, never something saved on their own. The draft stays invisible to the client at this point.
Each Upload new version adds v2, v3, and so on; the suggested version note comes from a comparison of the two versions — again, review and edit it before saving.
Send it for review
Press Send for review. Write the Note to the client (a suggested note is drafted from what changed since the last review — edit it), set an optional Review by date, and choose which clients review it on a multi-client case. The client gets an email and the draft appears in their portal's Drafts for review tab. While a review is pending, BetterDocket reminds them daily; Send reminder now is there for urgency, and recent reminders are deduplicated automatically.
What comes back
The document picks up an outcome: Client approved or Changes requested, sometimes with Call requested when they'd rather talk it through. Show history keeps every version and review round — the client's note, their marked-up copy if they uploaded one ("Open the client's marked-up copy"), and who uploaded what, when.
Uploading a new version while a review is pending replaces that review: the client is asked to look at the new version instead. Withdraw review returns the document to draft and removes the request from the client's list.
Finish it
Mark final locks the document — no new versions until you Reopen as draft. Draft work is online-only, and drafts live outside the case's file browser until you choose to share them. The client's side of this flow is covered in Review a draft from your firm.
