Read the Today queue

Today is a focused queue of client-facing follow-up, ordered by what needs attention first. It ranks by client-visible urgency, not internal activity — so the case at the top is the one where a client is actually waiting on your firm.

What counts as needing attention

Each case's pills name its signals, weighted roughly in this order:

  • Unread client messages waiting on the firm — the strongest signal.
  • Document requests that are overdue, due soon, or simply open.
  • Draft review responses waiting on the firm, and clients asking to discuss a draft on a call.
  • Key dates in the next 14 days.
  • "14+ days since the last status update" — the staleness clock. Posting any status update resets it.
  • Portal access problems — a client whose login isn't linked yet, or who has never visited the portal.

No pills is the success state: nothing on that case is waiting on you.

Work from the lead card down

The Start here card names the one case to handle first, with a one-sentence reason ("has an overdue document request", "is waiting on unread messages", "needs a fresh firm update"). Below it, Then work the queue lists the rest in urgency order; when nothing is urgent it says No urgent follow-up. The Today's signals rail on the right totals unread messages, open documents, and how many matters are current — small enough to scan once.

Act without opening the case

Every row (and the lead card) has a menu with the four routine actions: Send message, Post update, Request document, and Send draft for review. Sending a message or posting an update from here even works offline; requesting a document needs a connection.

Keeping the queue empty

The queue empties itself as you reply to messages, chase or close out document requests, and post updates before the 14-day clock runs out. If a case keeps surfacing for portal-access reasons, fix the invite instead — see Get a client into their portal.
